Hello dear students,
Today we are going to start the poem 'The Road not taken'. The poem is composed by Robert Frost. He was an American poet. He could not succeed in America as a poet. That's why he shifted to England and there he became successful as a poet. But to get satisfaction, he took another hard decision and returned to America back. That decision made a big difference in his life and he became quite successful as a poet in America. In this poem 'Roads' are the symbol of choices/ decision which we make in our life.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
The poet found two roads in a forest when he was travelling there. Both the roads were going aside from one path. It was a yellow wood (forest). The forest was yellow because it was full of yellow leaves as it was the season of autumn.
And sorry I could not travel both and be one traveller long I stood
As he was a single traveller so he could not take both the roads and stood there for a long time thinking which road he should take.
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth:
Standing there for a long time, he observed both the roads. He observed the last end of the roads up to what his eyes could see through the bushes.
